Gaze
Participants in dialogue do not simply “maintain eye contact.” They engage in precisely coordinated patterns of gaze behaviour. Previous research has shown that these patterns mark who is speaking and who is listening at any given moment. Our research identified coordinated gaze windows (i.e., brief moments of mutual gaze) that regulate the timing of the addressee’s feedback to the speaker.
