Wilson & Proctor, 1129 Wharf Street at Bastion Square

Built in 1861, the Wilson & Proctor building is one of the structures later purchased by R.P. Rithet. The iron front and corner entrance are distinctive features of the period. Corner entrances were once popular in Victoria at intersection locations. The decorative detailing in the iron front includes the caduceus, the wand carried by the Greek messenger god and god of commerce, Hermes or Mercury. For many years the building has served as a restaurant and is currently and Irish style pub.53
