VICTORIA, B. C. - THE GOVERNOR'S RESIDENCE
The Lieut-Governor's residence stands on a commanding eminence about one mile from the city. On July 20, 1871 the union of British Columbia took place. Joseph William Trutch became first Lieutenant Governor; he had come to B.C. in 1859 and was very actuve in the construction business, including contracts for teh famous Cariboo Road. In 1870 he was one of the three delegates to negotiate the terms of the union with Canada.
