1. Turn on the Yamaha console from the power swtich on the right side of the work bench. Also make sure the speakers are on.

2. RECALL SCENE 1 (Studio 3) on the Yamaha console. Also make sure the monitor button above the monitor dial is UP (it says "iMac").

3. Get an AUDIBLE test tone from Max/MSP through the console, and out to the speakers. This will save you a lot of grief if you are confused. (See below for correct settings in Max Audio window and the other apps). To get a test-tone from Max:
Options: Audio Status...should match screen shot below
Extras: Audiotester (from menu)
Source (Oscillator) (bottom of window)
You should now see a signal on channels 17 & 18

4. Once you get an audible test tone through the speakers, it's time to try out the Buchla.
Turn on the power switch on the power bar in the rack below the Buchla (the Buchla is plugged into that and should already be turned on).

5. Make sure to connect two (or four for quad) patch cords under the Buchla [BUCHLA OUT TO CONSOLE], and also two (or four) others on the other side of the room, to [FROM RACK 1-4 --> LINE IN 5&6 and/or 7&8] get the audio from the Buchla to the Yamaha console.

6. Now it's time to make a test tone on the Buchla. Simplest way: use one audio patch cord to go from an oscillator on the bottom of the Buchla to an input on the top of the Buchla. You should see some levels in the meters on top of the Buchla, and you should also see some activity on the Yamaha console for that input channel if everything is properly set up. Once you see the signal on the Yamaha, you should be able to hear the tone via the speakers once you've turned up the monitor level a bit.

6. If you want to record your session, launch Pro Tools, and bring up an new stereo track. You should be able to record from the Buchla now. Note that you need to record into 1 and 2 (also 3 and 4 if quad).

8. Click on the enable button for the track and you should see levels now.

9. Have fun with the Buchla. To record sounds that you like, just click on the RECORD button in Pro Tools. Hit <space> to stop recording. To record another snippet, just click the record button again. You can do this as many times as you like. If you're going to edit on another computer, copy your audio files to a USB stick or to your "MyFiles" on the Fine Arts server, and then delete them.

10. To save the files so that you can carry them elsewhere, select "export" as .wav in the File menu. Once you've written out the file, you can put it in your My_Files or some other server, or you can save on a USB stick to take it somewhere else to work on.

11. Once you've got the material you want, you can edit and assemble a short piece using Pro Tools or Audacity or any editor you like.
