INDIA -- Hindustani (North) vs Karnatic (South) Indian Music
We will concentrate on Hindustani music, since our guests were playing music from North India, and that is what we were exposed to.
Your task: to be able to identify all these instruments by ear (see link below) and seven of the most common talas by ear (see below).
Instruments: sarode, sitar, tampura, tabla, bayan (or baya), bansuri, shenai, santoor, sarangi, harmonium
Form: alap, jor, jhala
Origins: Upanishads / Vedic chants -- Many people think these are the origin of Indian music.
Ingredients: tala, raga, bols, tihai, keeping tal (kriyas)
