A PROSTITUTE KILLS HER LOVER
cont.
5 June 1898,
"Preliminary Hearing Concluded and Accused Committed to Stand Her
Trial."
Coroners' inquest was held to determine whether Belle
Adams should be held for trial. The first witness was doctor Dr. R. L
Fraser. Dr. Fraser was called to the Empire Hotel at 9pm 3 June 1898.
In his testimony he describes the state of Mr Kincaid's body, saying that
Kincaid's head was half severed from his body.
Two more witnesses were called and testified stating they witnessed Kincaid
coming out of the Empire Hotel with blood flowing from the wound in his
neck. As well, they heard arguing going on from within the hotel. The
final witness was Constable Anderson who was the first person on the scene.
Anderson was also the person that escorted Adams from the murder scene
to the jail. He testified that Adams admitted grabbing a razor and drawing
it across Kincaid's neck. She did this because Kincaid had told Adams
he was leaving her. Anderson also testified that Adams stated she did
not mean to kill Kincaid. After hearing the evidence the jury concluded
that Adams would be tried for the crime of murder.
