We’re always on the lookout for curious, motivated people who enjoy working together and challenging each other to do great science. We believe the best results come from a collaborative environment where everyone grows by pushing boundaries—together.
There are multiple ways to join our group:
We welcome both MSc and PhD students interested in quantum optics, atomic physics, or related areas. Typically student intake occurs in September of a given year, but applications are submitted around the end of the previous year (November or December). Prospective students should apply through the UVic Physics & Astronomy graduate program.
Postdocs are typically hired as the need arises. If you're an early-career researcher with a strong background in AMO physics or quantum optics, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch to discuss potential projects and fellowship opportunities.
UVic undergraduates looking to complete their honours thesis are encouraged to reach out early — ideally before their final year to discuss whether this would be something that you are interested in. We keep a list of suitable prjects here.
We regularly host students through various funding programs. Whether there are positions available depend on the funding agency and the group's internal budget (typically, we match funding with a scholarship).
If you're eligible and interested in applying, talk to us about project ideas and timelines.
If you are not sure that you are ready to dive fully into a research position and want to give it a go, we typically accept 2-3 undergraduate researchers at a time, depending on availability and compatibility of projects. Many of our previous volunteers have gone on to work with us on an internship or gone on directly to grad school.
