The following reflects what stood out for me most during my first reading of this transcript. I apologize for such a rushed version of my input for this process of data analysis, but my time is limited via email correspondence. I look forward to continuing in a more thorough way for next class on Tuesday. Merci beaucoup.

I. Data Analysis 1 re: Senanus Public Meeting transcript.

Claim 1: The residents`stories about their water problems experienced in the past and present are presented to the public meeting audience. I have noticed that their stories are presented late in the evening following presentations by scientists, councillors, CHR representatives and water task force. Also, I notice that the concluding comments made by the residents are not taken seriously. Further to this attitude that seems to be present in this meeting, the mediator has facilitated the audience to intrepret the information given by the residents as meaningless. The mediator sets the stage for concluding remarks from a resident. (I have presented claim and data in three parts.)

DATA 1: Page 1 of transcript. VB= Von Bishop who is..."liaison between the Municipality and the Water Advisory Task Force, and I am also looking after the Senanus water issue."

VB: We`ll try and answer any questions that people might have, after the presentation. Hopefully by nine o`clock, I would like to have an opportunity for public comments, and this will be a chance for people to air their personal opinion, and to talk about the various options that are available.

VB: ...I would like to move into the public opinion and comments part....Just give your name and address for the record and try and keep your comments as brief as you can in the interest of time. We are already up to 9:30 and I would like to move it along. Thank you sir.

Claim 2: Also, I notice that the concluding comments made by the residents are not taken seriously.

Comments after presentation by resident Ed Carmack

VB: I don know if Ed said anything in particular. All he was doing was presenting his side.

Claim 3: Further to this attitude which seems to be present in this meeting; the mediator has facilitated the audience to intrepret the information given by the residents as meaningless. The mediator sets the stage for concluding remarks from a resident.

DATA 3: Page 32

VB: yeah I know but everybody has a bias or a concern about it=

Towler: this is just a comment=

VB: well, lets not try and bash each other, please.

Towler: I am not bashing you. I`m not bashing.

Towler concludes with a short comment and the meeting is adjourned. (I would be interested to know what time the meeting was adjourned.)
