Greeting CUPR Members:
RE: Role of CUPR in CAHPERD.
One of the areas identified by the CAHPERD Board of Directors for CAHPERD
is strengthen the research arm of CAHPERD. We are fortunate to have a council
such as CUPR to provide the expertise in this area. After several discussions
with CUPR Executive and CAHPERD Board and National Office members, we've
identified 5 potential working groups where CAHPERD and CUPR members can
work closely together on various initiatives:
1) Avante/ Journal Advisory Board
- To provide support and guidance for Avante and research related issues in
the HPE Journal
- To help promote and raise subscriptions for Avante
- To help seek and write grants related to funds for Avante and the HPE
Journal (e.g., SSHRC Aid to Research Journals; Publications Assistance
Program - Heritage Canada)
- Promote call for papers on special topics
2) Research Expertise
- To act as CAHPERD's Research Ethics Board to provide council on any
research related projects conducted by CAHPERD
- To help seek and write research-related grants and other sources of
funding related to CAHPERD's mission (e.g., CIHR Workshop/ Symposium Funds,
CURA)
- Provide or solicit feedback on content issues that emerge
3) University Reps
- To promote and assist with the CAHPERD Student Award
- To promote university related initiatives (e.g., Student Leadership
Conference)
- To provide a link to other Research/ University related organizations
(e.g., CCUPEKA, CSSE)
- To act as a liaison between CAHPERD/ CUPR and Graduate/ Undergraduate/
Pre-service Health and PE students in Canada
4) Conference
- To promote and assist with a CUPR/ Research Related Forum within CAHPERD
Conference
- To encourage academics to participate at CAHPERD and Provincial
Conferences
5) Advocacy
- To advocate for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance in
various sectors (e.g., schools, sport, community)
- To use the CUPR Listserv and the CAHPERD Webpage to promote Canadian
research related to CUPR/ CAHPERD's mission
Basically, the way these working groups would function is if a particular issue
emerged (e.g., a funding opportunity) then interested researchers would be
contacted and s/he would be asked to provide feedback, etc.
If you are interested in any of these working groups or want more information,
please do not hesitate to contact me directly. We are entering a very historic
period of time with respect to the importance of physical education and physical
activity. There are many potential opportunities that will require your
expertise to help move our discipline further and you can help shape the future.
Thanks for considering these opportunities and I look forward to continuing the
dialogue and to working on some exciting initiatives with you in the near
future.
Sincerely,
James Mandigo
