Criteria for Course Credit

EDUC 200 is a professional course that introduces you to issues and practicalities of teaching.  As this is a course that focuses on growth and development, success in the course will depend on personal growth from the beginning to the end of the course.  Successful completion of the required assignments and activities will be recognized by a grade of “Credit” (CR); failure to successfully complete all of the requirements will result in a grade of “No Credit” (NC).

Successful completion of course requirements is determined as follows:

1.       Completion, at a level of university standard, of all of the assignments:

·         two lesson plans/analyses (teaching experiences)

·         eight journal entries with a final read-back (reflective experience)

2.       Regular attendance and participation in weekly university classes

3.       Completion of field experience visits to two different schools:

§         field experience activities completed as acceptable standard

§         self-assessment forms completed and signed by School Coordinator/Cooperating Teachers

4.       Professional Growth Plan by starting a portfolio.

Each of these assignments must be included in a professional portfolio which will be presented to the course instructor at the last class of the term.

Completion of these activities and assignments will enable you to begin to develop an understanding of the world of the teacher, methods of examining school contexts, and opportunities to research educational issues of concern of importance to you personally and professionally.  If all of the activities and assignments are completed at a satisfactory standard, you will receive a grade of Credit.

If all of these activities and assignments are not completed at a satisfactory standard, you will receive a grade of No Credit in the course and will be required to repeat the course at a later time.
