Stroke analysis

PE117 – Biomechanical Analysis – key ideas to look for.

Aim of skill – consistency and placement, spin & power.

 PHASES: Prep/wind-up/force generation/recovery

 BIOMECHANICAL CONCEPTS

·       Momentum – movement direction straight & angular

·       Elastic energy – muscle stretch

·       Stability – balance of weight

·       Ground Reaction Force – push back from ground

·       Lever Length – speed & force

·       Angular velocity –racquet speed

·       Weight Transfer – momentum and stability

·       Magnus Effect – how spin effects flight of the ball

·       Chaining – Momentum is transferred in the body from one set of muscle groups to another

·       Impulse – Length of distance a force is applied

·      Inertia – Body stays at rest unless acted upon by an external force.  Harder to move a stationary object than an object already in motion.
