The overhead slice is a shot
in which the ‘slice’ you put on the birdie will slow it down so that it will
land before reaching your opponent. This shot is disguised as an overhead
smash so that the opponent thinks that it has much more power than it actually
will have. |
The objective of this drill
is to practice performing the overhead slice shot. |
Equipment needed for this drill
includes a) badminton racquet for each player b) numerous amounts of birdies c) badminton court and net (not mandatory if space does not allow) |
Activity a) Get into groups of three to each half court b) One of the student should be on one side of the court alone with the birdie c) The single player will set up the one of the other players by hitting a lob serve or under hand toss over the net. The other player who is not hitting will make sure that the following points are followed |
Keys to remember a) The more square the racquet head is to the birdie, the more power you will generate b) Use more of the outside edge of the racquet when leading for more slice c) The more of a 'backhand' grip you have, the more slice you will have |
