-- Successfully putt various distances based on reading the green 5 times out of 10

Equipment:

Ø     Putting green with lots of holes (or something similar)

Ø     1 putter per person or 1 between 2 people

Ø     1 golf ball per person or 1 between 2 people

Introductory Activities/Warm-Up

Ø     Teacher led stretching

 

Ø     Safety and Rules for Golf

 

 

 

ü     Students will stretch as a group led by the teacher

ü     Emphasis will be placed on upper body, trunk and hips

ü     Procedural matters will be discuss in regards to safety

ü     Rules for practice will be established [e.g. hitting the ball from the center of the gym outwards only]

Skill Development-Concept

ü     Putting Stroke Development

    --without the ball

    • Gripping a putter
    • Putter stance
    • Pendulum Swing

 

ü     Target Practice

--targets set up at 5, 10, and 15 feet from start line on various terrain

·         Weight of stroke

·         Reading the green

  • Students will be given a reciprocal task sheet where they will build their grip, stance and swing in partners
  • Practice time will be given to develop a feel for putting swing and a comfortable grip
  • With a ball students will practice their stroke with a target
  • Students will be asked to putt for both short and long distances
  • Students will have to experiment with the weight of their stroke to be successful

Culminating Activity

  • Putting 21
    • Taking turns, each student putts the ball aiming for the target
    • Each turn points are awarded {1 for closest to the hole, 2 for hitting the lip, 3 for sinking it}
    • Each partner putts from same spot as the first

-Learners will be in partners or in groups of 3

-Players will change opponents once score of 21 is reached

-Teacher observes technique of players and provides feedback to them

 *How did you change your stroke to accommodate longer and shorter putts?
