THREE GOAL SOCCER
(3 Goal BeanBag Toss)
Game/Task Outline

Tactical Problem:  Teams must maintain possession of the ball and score in any of the three goals.  At the same time, they must be aware of defending the three goals when the other team has the ball.  TSWBAT effectively use the concept of space and team.  TSWBAT support the ball carrier effectively.
Skill development:
On-the-ball:    TSWBAT maintain possession of the ball by using their dribbling skills and by passing accurately.
TSWBAT find open space and put the ball on to the foot of their team mate.

Teaching Points:
  • communication
  • quick, effective movement
  • triangle passing angles
  • try to lose the opposition (cuts and fakes)
  • try to see space
  • anticipate where the ball is going
  • no goalies
  • team must pass three times before they are allowed to score
  • any team can score in any goal
To Score:  Put the ball between the two cones in any of the goals
To Prevent Scoring:  Get the ball from the opposition by intercepting a pass or stealing the ball from them.  No goalies
To Re-Start Play:  Whoever kicks the ball out-of-bounds loses possession, the other team restart play by a free pass on the ground to their team mate

Organizational Points:
  • Set up the field in rows with grids so that students have fields ready for them
  • space the fields far apart from each other (use every second grid) for safety and to prevent confusion
  • goals are ~ 1 m wide
  • pinnies vs non pinnies
  • make sure teams are playing different teams throughout the lessons, don't let the same two teams play each other every time
Equipment:
  • 20 pinnies
  • 40 small cones
  • 30 big cones
  • 10 soccer balls
Simplification:
  • use a bean bag instead of a soccer ball
  • use four goals instead of three
  • don't allow any steps to be taken by the ball carrier, passes only
  • make the playing area larger
Extension:
  • team must pass 5 times before they are allowed to score
  • make the goals smaller
  • make the playing area smaller
  • use a smaller ball to ensure accuracy
