Four Corner Passing Drill
Game/Task Outline

Tactical Problem: Creating space (by forming triangles) when passing to teammates in order to maintain possession of the ball.
Skill development:  TSWBAT always move to open space enabling their teammates to have numerous passing options
TSWBAT use communication when passing the ball
TSWBAT move after they have passed the ball (understand the idea of the "give and go")

Teaching Points:
  • pass the ball to open space
  • stay low
  • create angles
  • communicate- call teammates name who you are passing to
  • move to a different cone after you pass the ball

Organizational Points:
  • Set up the field in rows with grids so that students have fields ready for them
  • space the fields far apart from each other (use every second grid) for safety and to prevent confusion
  • in groups of three, groups of four can have a coach and rotate in
Equipment:
  • 40 small cones
  • 10 soccer balls
Extension:
  • increase the size of the grid
  • kick the ball to the open cone and send teammate to go get it by calling their name
  • add a defender (coach could become defender)
Simplification:
  • use a beanbag ( throw and catch)
  • decrease the size of the grid
