Managerial Routines

Attendance:
-
attendance is mandatory
-
attendance is taken during the warm-up in pre-determined
attendance rows
-
those without strip can join in on the class if they wish
to
-
students will notify the teacher before attendance if they
are excused from the class
-
with a proper note of excusal, students are given a note
to study in the library during the class
Gym
Strip (the kit!):
-
gym strip is mandatory
-
the student kit contains active wear shorts or sweat pants,
running shoes and an T- shirt or sweatshirt
-
students must participate to the best of their ability without
strip
if student does not participate and does not have a note,
she will lose marks for the day and be required to do a supplementary assignment
on the days activities
Student
Conduct:
-
only one person talks at a time
-
students will raise their hand to be called on
-
students will treat each other
-
students will treat the teacher with respect
-
only positive or constructive comments in class
-
no put-downs
Bathroom
Privileges:
-
students are allowed to go to the bathroom during
class but must ask permission from teacher before leaving class and report
back to class immediately
Equipment:
-
equipment not being used is put back in its proper place.
-
hula hoops can be used to contain equipment
-
unnecessary equipment cannot lie around the field for safety
-
only equipment necessary for lesson is brought out
-
students must clean up all the equi-pment before anyone leaves
Grouping
of Students:
-
each student allowed to choose own partner
-
groupings done in even numbers to avoid breaking up pairs
once they are formed (2's, 4's, 6's ect)
-
switch partners after each mini-lesson
-
odd number of students calls for a group of three so that
no-one is left out
-
in some cases, teacher assigns students a number to make
teacher-determined groups e.g.. "ones are on this field and two's
are on that field"
Dismissal:
-
teacher is in control of class, not the bell
-
dismissal by whistle
-
after class, teacher brings students in to review the key
points of the lesson
-
teacher informs students of what is happening next class
-
all equipment must be collected and put away properly before
students are dismissed
Demonstrations:
-
align students in semicircle so they can see you and you
can see them
-
teacher's back must face the wall so that student's are not
distracted and can focus on what the teacher is saying
-
both student and teacher demos
-
vary which students to use for demos
Disciplinary
Action for Disobeying Rules:
-
first warning is verbal using the student's name (i.e. "Sally,
only one speaker please)
-
second warning is individual and specific (i.e. "Sally,
I noticed that you keep talking while I am. If you have something
to say, I would love if you would raise your hand. Unfortunately,
if you do it again, you'll have to spend some after school time with me.")
-
third time, the student sits out for the remainder of the
lesson and is set up with a task to do with the teacher after school or
during the lunch hour (i.e.. picking up trash on the field, cleaning
out the equipment room, etc.)
-
if there is a fourth infraction, the student will be sent
to the principle and the parents will be notified
