5 on 5 Half-court (Defence): Task Outline
Tactical Problem: Preventing scoring and regaining possession in a full game-like situation (5 opponents/4 teammates)
Skill focus: Individual defensive positioning and movements, and team defensive play.
Teaching Points: 
  • see the ball and your check
  • communicate with teammates
  • stay between the ball and your man (off-the-ball defense)
  • stay between your check and the basket (on-the-ball defense)
Organizational Points:
  • 10 students at each hoop
  • one team of 5 wears pinnies
  • ball changes possession each make, miss or ball going out of bounds
  • 1 point for a steal or a block, 1 point for a made basket
  • must make at least 3 passes before shooting
  • first team to 5 points wins
  • time permitting, start again (mix up teams)
