One-on-One Dribble Defence: Task Outline

Tactical Problem: Preventing scoring and stoping invasion by defending a dribbling opponent.
Skill focus: Proper defense of a dribbling opponent in a one-on-one situation.

Teaching Points:
  • if dribbler picks up his dribble, must "jump up in his face"
  • change directions with dribbler
  • stay low
  • look at opponents ball and belly button (not his/her face)

Organizational Points:
  • all students in pairs and lined up on sideline
  • one student dribbles towards other sideline (zig-zagging), defender back shuffles
  • switch roles when pairs get to the opposite sideline
  • defender not allowed to steal ball at first, then allow him/her to steal it
