2 on 2 Continuous

Tactical Problem: Maintaining possession of the ball, preventing scoring

Skill Development: Defensive positioning on a 2 on 1 and 2 on 2

Teaching Points:

Tactic:
On the Ball

  • Attack the space
  • Attack the basket
  • Draw the defender
Off the Ball
  • Stay between the ball and the basket
  • Force the ball handler to make a decision (i.e shoot or pass)

Skill:
Defensive Stance

  • Low, balanced body position
  • Knees bent
  • Hands up to intercept a pass

Organizational Points:
  • Separate class into 2 teams, one team on either side of the basketball court.
  • One team sends two players from their end of the court with a ball to attack on offense while the other team has one defender in their end of the court.  Another defender is allowed to enter from half court once the offending team or the ball has crossed the center line.
  • After there is a basket scored, turnover or the ball goes out of bounds then the two defenders become offense.
  • The now defending team should have one player in their end of the court.
  • The game should have a pretty continuous flow to it .
