Scope
This four lesson unit
plan was designed to help develop tactical awareness for grades 9 and 10.
In constructing this plan, it is helpful to create modified soccer games
to allow the students to solve problems and make better decisions within
invasion games. In full version games, students lack the knowledge about
what to do and how to do it, with this plan students begin to understand
the game while implicitly learning about soccer.
Entry
ability
the
ability to kick a soccer ball
understand
the basic rules of the game (no arm contact, boundaries, how to score,
etc.)
the
ability to pass and shoot with varying speeds and limited accuracy
able
to perform on-the-ball skills (limited ball control)
Exit ability
understand on-the-ball skills (keeping ball close to body, using both feet,
keeping head up, greater awareness of surroundings)
able
to perform off-the-ball movements (support, cover, marking, creating space)
to
understand space, force and time (how can one get open, what is the importance,
and what movements are involved?)
greater
understanding of concepts
-
dribbling and defending ball
carrier - to change directions and use fakes to elude defender and create
time. Defender watches hips of ball carrier to dictate what movement should
follow.
-
passing - to use inside of
the foot to increase accuracy and consistency. Able to use both sides of
the foot to create space and time to make efficient passes and effective
decision making.
-
receiving and off-the-ball
movements - to locate and find space to eliminate inaccurate passes. Create
space to support ball carrier if assistance is needed. Marking a player
so offense has to alter positioning and decisions.
-
shooting - when, how and where
to shoot?
