PASS and MOVE

Game/Task Outline

Tactical Problem: Trap and control a pass from your partner and the make a pass back to your partner who is                                 on the move.
Skill development: TSWBAT pass a soccer ball in a controlled manner to a partner on the move and receive a pass and trap it while moving.  Passes will progress from just the instep of the foot to the outside and top of the foot as well.

Teaching points:
  • use the instep of the kicking foot (to start)
  • your non kicking foot should be placed next to the ball
  • square up to where you are passing to
  • keep ball on ground
  • cushion the ball with your foot to trap it by extending your foot to make contact and bringing it back towards your body as you make contact
  • stop ball with foot before passing back to partner (trap)
  • try alternating feet so you practice both feet
  • use more force for crisp passes
  • when leading a partner with a pass, try to put the ball just out in front of them so that they can
take the ball on the run without having to wait for it or try to catch up to it.

Organizational Points:
  • students will be spaced around their third of the field with about 20 feet between each other
  • make a triangle with approximately the same amount of space if there are groups of three and have two possible targets for the pass to go to.
  • number partners one and two "one's get a ball, two's find a space on the end line"
