PASSING
Game/Task Outline

Tactical Problem:  Receive and control a pass from your partner and then make a pass back to the next player in the line opposite you.  This is to be done at speed to emphasize quick passing.  After you make your pass you must go to the end of the opposite line.
Skill development: TSWBAT pass a soccer ball in a controlled manner to a partner and receive pass and trap it. Passes will progress from just the instep of the foot to the outside and top of the foot as well.

Teaching points:
  • use the instep of the kicking foot (to start)
  • your non kicking foot should be placed next to the ball
  • square up to where you are passing to
  • keep ball on ground
  • cushion the ball with your foot to trap it by extending your foot to make contact and bringing it back towards your body as you make contact
  • stop ball with foot before passing back to partner (trap)
  • try alternating feet so you practice both feet
  • use more force for crisp passes
  • step into your passes so that you can simply continue on to the end of the other line.
Organizational Points:
  • students should get into groups of 6 to 10 (based on numbers) and split up into two equal groups
  • the two equal groups should for two lines with players lined up behind each other
  • lines should face each other and should be spaced about 15 feet apart
  • one line should have the ball and they will be the side that starts
  • the player with the ball will make a pass to the first player in the other line and then he will continue on to the end of the opposite line.
  • the player receiving the pass with trap the ball under control and then make a pass to the other line's front player etc.
  • drill is continuous
  • competitions between two different groups can be made if there are enough numbers by saying the first team to have all players go through 2 rotations first wins, etc.
