Three V. Three Game

Tactical Problem: Setting up to attack.
Skill development: Accurate forearm passing to a target.  Setter opens up and sets to target.

Teaching Points: 
Tactic: 
  • Face the net when the ball is in the opposite court.
  • Turn to see the ball when it returns to your court.
  • Setter does this by pivoting and calling "here".
  • Set the ball to the target using proper technique.
Skill:

Setter skills: review volleying technique.

  • Hands high at forehead.
  • Hand position: look through window (see lesson 2).
  • Square to the target.
  • Finish like superman (extend arms and legs).
Passer skills: review forearm pass (see lesson 1).

 
 
Organizational Points: 

Using 1/2 court (narrow and short), game is started from a free ball.  Alternate free ball and rotate postitions after each rally.  Use up to three hits per side. 
 

  • First contact on your side must be a forearm pass.
  • One point is earned if the ball goes within one step of  the setter who has opened up.
