4 Sided Soccer

Tactical Problem: Must make a successful pass to a team-mate across any of the four sidelines by creating space with appropriate on-the-ball and off-the-ball decisions.

Skill development: Various on-the-ball skills such as trapping, shielding, passing and dribbling.        Focus on off-ball movement.

Exercise Objectives:
  • Players score a point by making a successful pass to a team-mate across any of the four sides of the playing area.
  • Maximum 3 touches, then must pass.
  • Restart game from side of last goal/out-of-bound ball with a pass. No scoring immediately across that line.
  • Defence must decide on man-marking or zone coverage to defend all four "goals".

Organizational Points:
  • Each group of 4 from Grid Work drills becomes a team.
  • Two groups (of different colours) combine their grids to make an appropriate playing area.
  • Time permitting, rotate teams based on available pinnies or by "round robin" style.
