Uneven Attack

Tactical Problem: 2 v 1 situation. How to avoid defender and score.

Skill development: Marking a player, avoiding poor pass decisions and avoiding the defender by using fakes, changes of direction and spreading into space.

Exercise Objectives:
  • In groups of 3 choose a defender and two attackers. Within a grid attack an end line. Defender focuses on marking a offensive player and if the defender gets the ball then he/she is now on offence.

Teaching Cues:

  • No long bombs! They get picked off.
  • Keep spread out to force a decision by defender.

Organizational Points: Get into groups of three and find a quadrant.

Players can pass forward or backwards and overhand or underhand.

Extension: Introduce a 4th player that will come in after "5 steamboats" and act as an added defender.

Reduce the playing area to give the defender a better chance and increase difficulty for offence.

Simplification: restrict the ways to pass, example only underhand passing.
