Organizational Points: 
  • Divide students into groups of three and pair the group up with another
  • Each group of six will have one ball and eight cones to mark playing area
  • The cones will be set up to mark two squares about 15 x 15 feet and about 6 feet apart
  • Each group of three will occupy one of the squares
  • Rallies start by having one group toss the ball across to the opposite group
  • The two groups will rally back and forth between squares using forearm and overhead passes
  • Each group will have a maximum of three hits but may use as few as one to pass the ball back across to the other square
  • Groups will count the consecutive successful passes between squares and will compare with the other groups in the class
  • Players must have at least one foot within the boundaries of the square for their hit to count
  • Group sizes can be modified depending on numbers by placing 4 or 2 within one square depending on skill levels

Guided discovery questions:

Q:  How were you able to keep the rallies going for an extended period?
A:  By communicating and making accurate passes within group and sending accurate passes across to opposing square.
