High-ten Game

Tactical Problem:  Timing of jump or take-off
Skill development:  Good blocking technique and hand eye coordination

Teaching Points:
 

Tactic  

  • Time jump to match that of partner
  • Avoid touching the net
Skill 
  • Two foot take off from low position
  • Knees bent
  • Arm swing for maximum vertical lift
  • At highest point of jump fully extend arms

Organizational Points: 
  • Divide students into pairs according to height. Shorter students play on courts with modified nets to ensure success
  • Students stand opposite their partners on the three meter line as in the diagram
  • Students must approach the net and without touching it, contact their partners hands above the net with their own
  • A successful "high ten" results in a point for the pair
  • After an attempt has been made, successful or not the student must return to their base position before attempting to gain another point 
  • Students continue for an allotted time trying to get the most points out of all the other pairs
