Tactic  

Defensive:

  • Quick movement from base position

  • designate rolls, i.e. passer, setter, hitter

Organizational Points: 
  • Divide students into groups of three according to height. Shorter students play on courts with modified nets to ensure success 
  • Two balls per group, one in play and one to maintain flow
  • Designate block side and attack side of court
  • Attackers set up to receive ball from over the net
  • Blockers line out as in diagram 
  • First blocker in line softly over-hand serves 
  • Attackers receive ball 
  • Bump, set, hit through scoring area attempting to win a point
  • Blocker blocks to gain a point for his/her team then rotates with next blocker in line
  • Switch roles of students after allotted time

Guided discovery questions:

Q: How could you ensure contact with the ball on your blocking attempts.
A: By appropriate timing of block attempt.
