Drill #2: Net Shot Challenge
-
4 people to a court: 1 hitter, 1 counter, 2 feeders.
Feeders are positioned on either side of the court at the net. Their
job is to feed so the hitter can hit a good net shot. The hitter
starts behind the counter, who is seated at the centre of the court at
the attack line.
-
The hitter performs a forehand net shot, recovers behind
the counter and then moves to the other side and performs a backhand net
shot, and then repeat. The counter tallies how many successful net
shots the hitter makes in the 30 second trial.
-
Each person rotates through each position for
30 second trials.
-
A successful shot is one that goes over the net
in a tumbling action.
- Teaching Points:
-
Make sure that the students understand how to properly feed the bird.
This will allow the hitter more success in doing the net shot. Can
make the students more motivated to give good feeds by saying that if they
feed well then their feeders will feed well to them. This will ultimately
lead to higher success rates on net shots.
-
Also emphasize the lunge and recovery because proper technique will
aid in success when fatigue sets in.
