The Smash: Proper Footwork, Body Position and
Recovery
Footwork:
-
Step back left - step back right - jump off right - land on left - forward
on right.
Body Position:
Preparation:
-
use a relaxed forehand grip
-
non racquet foot forward
-
body is sideways to the net and elbow is in close to the body
-
racquet arm is stretched back behind body in "back scratch" position
Contact:
-
during the stroke, extend the racquet arm above and in front of the head,
rapid motion
-
rotate above the waist as this increases power
-
do not rotate the waist itself
-
contact the shuttle high and in front of the body with the racquet face
angled downward
-
aim for the mid court area (at the feet of your opponent)
-
use a whip like action with the racquet
Recovery:
Follow through:

Bring racquet foot forward and racquet arm across your body

Immediately return to the ready position
