Contained within this site is a 4 lesson volleyball unit designed for a co-educational split class of grade 4 / 5 students. There were a total of 33 students in the class. The facility that was used was the Braefoot Elementary School gymnasium. Though we had the entire gymnasium to ourselves, the small size created an environment with very limited space.
The major objectives of our lesson include:
-introduction and practice of forearm and
overhead passing
-demonstration and understanding of basic
court coverage and communicative tactics
-attempting to work technical skills into
a modified tactical framework
Entry Abilities
-All participants were novice volleyball players
with little or no experience with the sport.
-None were aware of proper technique or able
to demonstrate such technique.
-Students possessed minimal or no tactical
knowledge (some knew object is to put the ball over the net into other
team's court).
Exit Abilities
-Students will be able to demonstrate improvement
in ability to forearm and overhead pass.
-Students will understand and demonstrate
basic court coverage and communication.
-Participants will be able to demonstrate
increased tactical awareness in a modified game environment.
