CHILD OBSERVATION ASSIGNMENT #4

Frank Hobbs School

Initial requirements

The major purpose of this observation assignment is to collect information about the range of developmental levels of students within a given grade and between a grade level.  You will complete this assignment over two school visitations.  On the first school visit you will be assigned two students, one in grade one and the other grade two.  On the first visit, you are to collect information about the two students that will describe their level of physical, cognitive, and social development.  In preparation for the school experience, you will need to have read and absorbed the Wall and Murray article (p25-31) in the handbook.  See Table 1 below for characteristics to observe.  For reference to movement patterns refer to the Gallahue (1996) (Developmental physical education for today's children (3rd ed.). Madison: Brown & Benchmark) in course handbook.   On the second visit, select one of your two assigned students and observe this student in relation to his/her peers.

The lesson plans for these lessons will be placed on the Web so you will have a record of the introductory activity, the tasks and the culminating activity.
