Whole unit game focused format

This unit plan assignment is based on the structure of websites created by previous PE452 class.  The difference in this assignment is that the focus is creating resources for a unit not planning individual lessons.  The focus in this assignment is creating a progression of games, management and organizational strategies for a class of 30 students, support resources for unit instruction and assessment processes for student learning.

 

On Monday, Nov 3   – (a) Bring to class content analysis that you are developing that will be used in unit, (b) Sequence of games with task progressions, and (c) Assessment materials.  Read chapter 10, Griffin et. al. (1997).

 

Purpose of Assignment

  1. Prepare a professional unit plan resource for a chosen games activity.

  2. Work with the components of a unit plan to develop a framework for a successful unit of instruction.

If you want to build a website to create the unit then additional purpose is:

  1. Become proficient at developing the use of a web-based medium to share with colleagues and peers.

Requirements

The unit is a resource for approx 500 minutes of instruction in a school PE program.  Based on your experiences in a school you decide the length of lessons, how many lessons, age of the students and ability levels.

The minimum requirements of this assignment are to complete each of the sections listed below.

  1. Entry and exit outcomes

  2. Assessment ideas that match outcomes.  Ideas for assessing teaching instruction can also be included but not a requirement.

  3. Content analysis – combining both tactical and skill elements

  4. Brief outline block plan with links to Task/Game analysis sheets.

  5. Managerial routines & Organization time savers

  6. Additional materials i.e. task cards, links to useful sites such as rules for sport, governing bodies of sport, local clubs or sites offering coaching information.

Expectations

q       This is a group assignment so work load must be shared between partners in a professional manner.  Assignments must be in an electronic form on a disc (CD, floppy or ob the Athena “T: “ drive at the university – PE452 drop folder).  Lesson plans are not expected in this assignment. 

q       Create or adapt any managerial routines or organizational time savers learned in a school, from other students’ websites, from class experience and from your reading.  Ensure ideas are referenced if not your invention.  

q       Key aspects of this assignment are the content analysis, block plan and task/game analysis sections. 

q       Write an explanation on how to read your content analysis.  Where appropriate use references to support your ideas.

q       Write an introduction to your unit plan explaining how it will realize the aims and goals of the BC IRP (expect around 500 words).  Try to identify key features of your unit that will enable all students (diverse abilities) to gain benefits from the unit that would encourage them to pursue the activity.

Grading:   REMINDER - materials taken from other sources must be referenced, that includes other websites. In relation to your explanations and the materials presented the marks for this unit will be weighted as follows:

Criteria: Dependant on form of UNIT plan selected

1.  Progression: The content of the unit should show a progression of tactical and skill components that reflect the age group and ability of students taught. 35 or 32%
2.  Understanding: Each aspect of the unit should be presented so that other student teachers and teachers can understand it. 30 or 28%
3.  Appropriateness: The unit should present material appropriately for the activity and students, and in a form that can be used by other teachers. 15%
4.  Referencing: Materials should be referenced so that acknowledgement is given to original sources. 10%
5.  Technology: Technology has been used effectively to organize & display the material. Professional, links work, images inserted and easy to access information.             WORD document 10%.   Website no frames 12%.   Website with frames 15%
