I. & II. Teacher & Student Self Evaluation

According to the BC IRPs (1995) for Gr. 10 Personal and Social Responsibilities there are certain expectations required for appropriate behavior and participation.  We have included the Teacher’s evaluation and the Student’s Self Evaluation sheets which will be used to grade the student’s participation mark.  We have a 10 day Volleyball Unit plan and each day the student’s will be given a mark out of 5 based on their participation and this will go towards their overall grade.  Along with a daily teacher’s evaluation, each student at the last 3 minutes of the end of the class will fill out a self evaluation sheet.  The self evaluation will be based off of the Student Responsibility Scale from the BC IRPs (1995)that the teacher uses.  Each Student Self Evaluation also includes one comment from the student on how they assisted a peer to improve on a skill during the class.

BC IRPs: It is expected that students will:

select and apply rules, routines, and procedures of safety in a variety of activities from all movement categories

demonstrate positive behaviours that indicate self-respect and self-confidence while participating in physical activity

demonstrate appropriate social embers while working co-operatively with others

demonstrate etiquette and fair play

identify and demonstrate positive behaviours that indicate respect for individuals’ potential, interests, and cultural backgrounds

apply leadership skills related to physical activity

identify existing careers or potential entrepreneurial ventures in the community related to physical activities

III. Students’ Participation Marks (GPAI)

During the two blocks of tournament play teams will be peer evaluated using the GPAI scale.  One team during every match will have a by in the tournament.  The team not playing will be evaluating a specific peer in game play using the Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI).  According to Metzler (2005) ; “the GPAI developed by Griffin, Mitchell, and Olsin (1997) does just that by analyzing player’s performance in several categories of involvement, skills, strategies, and decision making during game play.”   Once the match is over, the students participating in the game play will find their evaluator and receive their Game Performance Assessment Instrument sheet.  Student will observe their weaknesses and achievements, and make a connection to their game play, tactical awareness and skill execution on the court.  The student participating in game play will then answer three questions on the back of their GPAI:

1. What are my weaknesses and strength during game play?

2. What on-the-ball and off-the-ball movements help me to successfully execute a skill?

3. What would I do to improve my game of volleyball?

Teachers will collect the GPIA evaluation sheets from all the students and use this to determine the student’s participation mark for the unit.

IV. Gym Strip

Part of the student’s mark will be based on their appropriate attire to participate in each class. Everyday students will be either given a check mark or X.  Every time a student does not bring proper PE strip 0.5 is deducted from there overall mark out of 10.
