On the Ball Skills
Retaining Dribbling/Shielding
PREP - have ball in front of you in your touch zone
(where you can touch it), be in an athletic position,
know where you are going, head up
WIND UP - shift weight to foot farther away from the ball,
lift up foot that is going to make contact
with the ball
FORCE GENERATION - push foot forward, making
contact with the middle of the ball while
shifting weight over to that foot
*Repeat these 3 phases until ready to distribute ball*
RECOVERY - return to an athletic position, move into
open space to create an option for your teammate;
pass and move

PREP - be square to target in an athletic position,
eyes on the ball
WIND UP - turn your foot so instep is facing the ball
FORCE GENERATION - absorb the ball by cushioning it
RECOVERY - return to an athletic position, head up to
see what your next move is
PREP - be square to target in an athletic position
WIND UP - non-passing foot next to ball,
swing leg back
FORCE GENERATION - swing leg forward, lock ankle,
follow through transferring weight,
strike the middle of the ball
RECOVERY - get back into an athletic position
