Endball

Aim of game: (1) To have the students understand the use and importance of using and moving into space. (2) To pass a ball to a teammate that is standing over the score line.

Rules:

1.Must pass the ball to a player that is standing over the score line to score

2.Cannot move while holding the ball

3.Cannot contact the player with the ball while on defense

Tactical  Awareness:

Teammates must make quick movements to get away from defenders in order to receive a pass.

Teammates must move around to space to create passing opportunities because the person with the ball cannot move.

Teammates must communicate to let the player with the ball now where they are of where they want the pass to go.

Defenders must be aware of where the offenders are and must try to eliminate the passing lanes.

Off-the-ball Movements

Move into space

Allude defenders to become open for a pass

Communicate their position and when they are/are not open

On-the-ball Skills

Pivoting to move around defender and pass

Catching the ball

Looking for openings and seeing the space


              TASK PROGRESSION

1.3 vs. 0

-4 cones, 3 players each at a different cone

-one ball, one of the players without the ball must run to the open cone and receive a pass

-Once the ball is caught a new person will run to the new open cone and receive a pass


        REFINEMENTS - Cues

-move quickly to the open cone

-pass ahead of the person to allow them to catch it as they slow down or stop

-call each others’ names while passing

               Extensions/

               Simplifications

-more/less cones, but always one empty cone


2.3 vs. 1

-Same game as above but with a defender in the middle

      -     Offense must communicate with one                                          another and move to space that their teammate can pass to

-same as above

      -     defender must move around and anticipate the pass to the open cone, must be able to recognize where the open cone is and where is may move to

-same as above

      -     more defenders

3.End ball

     -     Playing end ball using an oversized ball, throwing it to team-mates

-as explained above

     -     equipment used can be changed based on the performance of the students

4.End ball – Field Hockey

End ball played using a field hockey ball and sticks for passing

-same as above but with Field Hockey equipment

    -     defenders can be required to move back from the person with the ball to allow for easier passing
