Slap Shot
Slap Shot
Stage 1 - Preparatory
Stage 3 - Force
Stage 2 - Wind Up
Stage 4 - Recovery
In the preparatory phase of the slap shot the athlete prepares by lining up their stick and body with the ball. The ball should be out in front of the body, and the legs should be shoulder distance apart. Hands should be holding the stick at the top and down the middle of the shaft. Eyes are focused on the target.
During the wind up phase the stick is pulled straight back to generate the power. Unlike the push pass, the main source of power for this pass is through the back swing of the stick. The athlete should have their eyes on the ball throughout the back swing and follow through. Legs should be slightly bent to ensure athlete is well balanced.
The force phase is the part of the swing where the stick connects with the ball. The force is generated through the back swing and the power is transfered to the ball upon contact. The athlete should keep their eyes on the ball through the swing.
In the recovery phase we can see that the follow through is completed with the stick face pointing forwards. The swing is made by the turning of the torso and shoulders. The ball will travel in the direction of the follow through of the hit.
