Passing

On-the-ball Tactical Awareness

Phase One - Preparatory Phase:

Gripping the football

  1. -Will depend on size of hand

  2. -Have either the ring or index finger on the lace

  3. -Have fingers pointed downwards towards the nose of the ball

  4. -Hand should be wrapped around the football with fingers spread

  5. -Should be some space between the ball and the palm of the hand


Base

  1. -Knees should be bent

  2. -Weight Shifted between front and back foot

  3. -Keep on the balls of the feet

  4. -Opposite should of throwing hand should be facing target

  5. -Ball is being lifted up to shoulder level, allows for quick release

  6. -Eyes should be down the field in order to select target

Phase Two - Wind Up Phase:

  1. -Target should be selected

  2. -Weight starting to shift to back foot

  3. -Amount of force should be determined

  4. -Knees remain bent

  5. -Ball is now above the shoulder

  6. -Hips and shoulders are turned parallel to target

  7. -Ball is drawn back, behind the body

  8. -Throwing arm is now bent

Phase Three - Force Phase:

  1. -Weight transferred to the back foot

  2. -Hips and shoulders have completely rotated to parallel with the target to generate power

  3. -The elbow is high and leading the arm

  4. -Arm is brought forward towards the target

  5. -Core is tight

  6. -Weight is transferred back over to the front foot, this is happening simultaneously with shoulder and hip rotating back to square

  7. -Should and arm come forward and the ball is released

  8. -Ball is rolled off the finger tips at the point of release creating a spiral

Phase Four - Recovery Phase:

  1. -The arm should followthrough towards the target after release

  2. -Body should be facing target

  3. -Anticipate what will happen next to make the necessary adjustments
