Passing
On-the-ball Tactical Awareness
Phase One - Preparatory Phase:
Gripping the football
-Will depend on size of hand
-Have either the ring or index finger on the lace
-Have fingers pointed downwards towards the nose of the ball
-Hand should be wrapped around the football with fingers spread
-Should be some space between the ball and the palm of the hand
Base
-Knees should be bent
-Weight Shifted between front and back foot
-Keep on the balls of the feet
-Opposite should of throwing hand should be facing target
-Ball is being lifted up to shoulder level, allows for quick release
-Eyes should be down the field in order to select target
Phase Two - Wind Up Phase:
-Target should be selected
-Weight starting to shift to back foot
-Amount of force should be determined
-Knees remain bent
-Ball is now above the shoulder
-Hips and shoulders are turned parallel to target
-Ball is drawn back, behind the body
-Throwing arm is now bent
Phase Three - Force Phase:
-Weight transferred to the back foot
-Hips and shoulders have completely rotated to parallel with the target to generate power
-The elbow is high and leading the arm
-Arm is brought forward towards the target
-Core is tight
-Weight is transferred back over to the front foot, this is happening simultaneously with shoulder and hip rotating back to square
-Should and arm come forward and the ball is released
-Ball is rolled off the finger tips at the point of release creating a spiral
Phase Four - Recovery Phase:
-The arm should followthrough towards the target after release
-Body should be facing target
-Anticipate what will happen next to make the necessary adjustments
