The goal of this unit plan was to introduce the game of Badminton to a Grade 6 class. The class we taught was a Grade 6 Physical Education class at Gordon Head Middle School that only had 40 minutes of P.E.. We used the TGFU model to teach the students the concepts of off-ball movements and tactical decision making that relates to the game of Badminton.  Our lesson plan can be adapted to suit other grade levels as well as other skill levels.  We also let the kids decide the parameters of some of the games they played in order to suit their own individual skill level to ensure that they could maximize not just their abilities but also have as much fun as possible.  The major intent of this lesson plan is to give the students not just the skills they need for Badminton but also skills that can be transfered to other sports as well (Transfer of Learning).  The fundamentals of the TGFU approach that we wanted to get across to the students were: The 4 R’s (Read, Respond, React, Recover),  STEP (Space, Task, Equipment, Players), CAPS (Cognitive, Affective, Psychomotor, Social), Modifying games, and the Basic Task Model.
