Cone Dribbling


Tactical Problem: Maintaining possession of the ball while dribbling through cones
Skill development: Keeping ball close to the body, keeping control, keeping head up, soft touches

Teaching Points: 

Tactic:

  • Soft touches
  • use instep, not toe
  • keep ball within a foot of your feet

Skill:

  • dribbling
  • dribbling with obstacles
  • keeping head up
Diagram:

Organizational Points: 
  • Divide class into separate groups each with their own set of cones evenly spaced 3 or 4 feet apart.  To avoid standing around once 2nd cone is passed next student may begin.  Once through the cones dribble back down left hand side of the cones.

Simplifications:

  • Spread out cones farther
  • Perform drill at a walking pace

Extensions:

  • Move cones closer together
  • Make a relay competition between the lines
