In Fungus 100, I was entranced by the organisms under a microscope. I saw them as minute and intricate landscapes of rolling fields and forests. I had a much more complex relationship with organic chemistry, however. Even as I found it impossible to work out the chemical formulas of most compounds, I loved it best, the way you love a recalcitrant child, inexplicable yet compelling, with all your heart. I knew within it was some mystery of invisible bonds I was seeking to touch.
