Transcription Of Court Case

P.3

Ephrain Evans having

I reside in the neighbourhood of the house complained of. During every night last week I have been annoyed by the noises coming from that house on three nights during the past week I passed by the building—namely on Tuesday Thursday and Saturday nights; there was an almost constant ingress and egress of white men and Indian women—I heard most disgustingly lewd and obscene language from the lobby and in front of the building—On Thursday and Saturday nights I saw men come from the building in company with Indian women—pass round and go underneath it. I have on several nights since the first instance been kept awake until twelve o. clock, when I wished to sleep by the noises arising from that building. I never saw the defendants before I now see them in Court I have noting against them personally. The windows of the building are generally open during that portion of the night complained of. The noises consist of loud stamping + shouting minglesd with the music. I disapprove of dancing personally and I would rather see persons better employed.

I live at the Corner of Johnson and Broad Streets and on the nights of Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, + Saturday I passed the house complained of with my wife—and I have seen white men and Indian women from this dance house come round by my house. (objected to by Mr. Bishop) Just outside the dance house leading round to my house I have seen when my wife was with me, white men with their arms round Indian women's necks—The noise from the stamping+dancing and hollaring and hooting has prevented me from sleeping until one o'clock in the morning.(continued on Page 4)
