Prof. Nikolai Dechev, Associate Professor B.A.Sc. Mechanical Eng. (Toronto); M.A.Sc. Mechanical Eng. (Toronto); Ph.D. Mechanical Eng. (Toronto), P.Eng. Bio: Nick Dechev’s research program is centered on electro-mechanical system design, and its application to biomedical equipment, bio-sensors, and microsystems. The intersection of mechanical systems, electronics and control (i.e. mechantronics) form the core of this program. Nick's core expertise is centered on system design of mechantronics, robotics, experimental multi-DOF prosthesis, advanced sensor systems, mechanical/electrical design, and microsystem (MEMS) design/fabrication. dechev@uvic.ca |

Dr. Kelly Stegman, Post Doctoral Fellow, Mechanical Engineering Ph. D. Mechanical Eng. (2013,UVic); M.A.Sc. Mechanical Eng.(2009,UVic); B.Sc. Physics and Astronomy (2007,UVic) Research: Development of a Portable Ultrasonic Sensing System to Detect Hand Tendon Motion for Prosthetic Control Bio: Kelly Stegman is currently a Post Doctoral Fellow and Lab Manager of the BDSL. She has completed an honours B.Sc. in Physics and Astronomy, a M.A.Sc.in Mechanical Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, at the University of Victoria. Her primary research focus is on the ultrasound-based imaging of moving tissue (tendons) to estimate their motion for controlling multi-degree-of-freedom prosthetic hands. Her ultrasound work also involves custom software and hardware development, consisting of a new compact ultrasound platform with a sparse-multi-array transducer with miniaturized beamformer. She is also involved in the design and manufacture of multi-DOF prosthetic hands using 3D printing technology. |
