Edgar Marvin Edgar Marvin was born in 1824 and came to Victoria in 1862. The 1881 census reveals that Marvin’s country of origin was the United States and that he was married.23 In 1862, Marvin bought a hardware store on Fort Street, which he relocated to Wharf Street in 1866. In 1884, Edward Gibbon Tilton became a partner in the company and the name of the business was changed to Marvin and Tilton. In 1897, the business was sold to A.B. Fraser, and the name changed once again to Walter Fraser and Company Limited.24 Marvin died in 1891.
