Entry
Level and Exit Outcomes
Entry Level:
It may be difficult to access the abilities and behaviors of a class
of students before commencing a unit. This may be especially so if
you are a new teacher within the school. It is important to design
an appropriate unit for each group of students as classes vary greatly what
they bring to the class. One way to assess entry level skill and attitudes
may be to have the students fill out a questionnaire during a previous unit.
This questionnaire (link
to sample questionnaire) could effectively determine past dancing experience
and attitudes towards dance. To ensure that all students fill out the questionnaire,
a participation mark or percentage of the overall grade of the the unit
can be given to the students for filling it out prior to the commencement
of the unit. Furthermore, this might also be a good tool to hand back
to the students at the end of the unit to allow them to see their own progress.
Exit outcomes:
It is not always easy to assess what students learn (motor
abilities, cognitively and affectively). It is hoped that these will
match the learning objectives set out
prior to the unit but this is not always the case (see
pedigogal unit). However, it is important as a teacher to evaluate
as best as possible in order to adjust lessons and the overall unit to
best reach the desired learning outcomes.
