MINIMIZING OPPONENT'S FIELD SPACE

Tactical Problem: Make it difficult for the opponent to receive ball.

  • Learning to guard man to man.

  • Keep as close as possible to check.
  • Keep feet moving at all times. 
  • Always know where opponent is.
  • Learn to watch the play and other players while guarding your opponent.


 

 

Organizational Points
  • Start in a large grid.
  • Start with simple movements.
  • Emphasize safety (lots of people running in a tight area).
  • Switch partners often - learn to guard various types of players.
Extensions:
  • Reduce grid size.
  • Increase difficulty of offender's movements - forces defender to think more and work harder.
  • Add a ball for offenders to pass around while being guarded.
