Layout of Gym Used For Teaching Unit

The physical arrangement probably had a negative affect on learning/teaching because the gym itself was very small space and not suited to breaking the class up into smaller groups in order to work on skills and tactical aspects. I don’t believe that the environment of a gym did reflect the teacher’s beliefs and values about teaching and learning. The teacher is unable to change the size and setup of the gym, I’m sure if he had input during the construction of the gym he might have trying to change things. The teacher was able to change the aspects of the games they played in order to suit the environment.

1) Equipment
all balls not in use are kept contained in proper area (ie. bin or hula hoop)
equipment spread out if a variety of equipment is needed in the lesson
equipment is set out to match students' skill level
students are assigned numbers when in groups to delegate who gets and puts away what equipment ones go get a ball, twos go find an open space
Have equipment set up before hand if possible
Set up cones and nets to save time
2) Teaching Space
use as much of the gym or field as possible
provide adequate space between grids to eliminate confusion
make sure teacher is able to supervise amount of space set out
allow students enough space to perform task effectively / safely
teacher should be close enough to provide frequent feedback
the grid is an effective tool to space class (can extend and simplify easily)
