The explicit goal of this website is to
offer the users several different levels on which they can interact
with the material. If a person is only interested in a fairly superficial
viewing of this topic, he or she can easily browse through the pictures
or read some of the introductory texts in the various sections. At
the same time, we have also offered many primary source documents
as well as several pages of analysis for those who may harbour a keener
interest in these issues. Finally, for those who are deeply interested
in this topic, we have also provided an account of the relevant documents,
both archival and secondary, in our Sources
page so that they can perhaps use this as a starting point from which
they can do further research on the topics of race relations and the
law in the early history of Victoria.
We have also put the same care into making
using this website enjoyable to use. Just as it is the goal of historians
to make their research as transparent as possible, so too should it
be the goal of an historical website creator to make the site's interface
and navigation as transparent and logical as possible. Hopefully,
little guidance is needed for the user to explore the site as it is
organized farily simply. There are six major sections each with their
own subsections and all pages are accessible from the main drop down
menu at the top. In addition to this menu, there is also a sidebar
on the left of the screen that allows the user to easily jump between
pages within a subsection without having to continually go up to the
main menu.
