"Relay" Warm Up

Relay

  • Divide class into groups of 4 or 6 depending on class size and mat space.
  • Separate group so half is on one side of the mat and the half is directly across.
  • Have each student do an activity as they cross the mat:
  • crab walk (forward, backward)
  • crawl (forward, backward)
  • rolls
  • jumps (left foot , right foot, two feet)
  • stretching activates (lunge walks)
  • Turn activity into relays. First team to have students back in original spot wins.Sample:

Sample:

  • each student has to crab walk to the other end of the mat, tag their team-mates hand. Students finish where they started (means they cross the mat twice.)
  • each student must do a roll (forward or backward) and tag their team-mates hand.

Note: One group of students will be assigned to take out the mats at the beginning of class and a second group will be assigned to put them away at the end of the class.
