Welcome to the webpages for Chem 590 "Research Tools and Methods". Navigate around this site using the links at the left-hand side of each page. This course will be taught for just the second time in the upcoming academic year (2007/8), and includes some quite novel aspects. More details (and a FAQ) are available on the syllabus page, but here's a summary:

1. Only graduate students can get credit for the course; it is not offered to undergraduates.
2. It is a modular course. Eight modules will be offered by different faculty members, each of which will cover the equivalent of eight hours of teaching and one hour of assessment.
3. Modules will be offered throughout the Fall and Spring terms at the discretion of the instructor. There is no set time or classroom for the course.
4. If you have registered for the course, you will be alerted by email notifying you of updates to this website concerning the timing of module offerings.
5. Students must complete four modules. Each of the completed modules will carry equal weight for the purposes of establishing a grade for the course.

If you're interested in taking the course, just email or drop in to see the course coordinator in the first few weeks of the Fall term, and indicate which modules you would like to take. Because this is a new course with a 590 designation, it requires a Pro forma registration (as "590" may be taken more than once for credit, provided the topic is different, so without a Pro forma registration form, there would be no way of tracking the topic of the courses).
